CCTV control rooms are common in both highway management and public space CCTV. The amount of camera feeds is invariably more than the control room staff can effectively monitor as they are expected to deal with issues, as well as monitor camera feeds.

Video analytics can be used very effectively to support control room staff by presenting them with the cameras feeds where potential issues have been identified. This allows them to concentrate on dealing with the issues rather than scanning monitors.

Video analytics offer a good solution for the management of the road networks. It is an “above ground technology” so the installation and maintenance of equipment doesn’t require the road surface to be disturbed with all of the issues of congestion caused by closing one or more lanes.
