Traffic Pollution Surveys
Motor transport is one on the largest contributors to atmospheric pollution. The pollution load is made up of the number of vehicles, the mixture of their types and significantly the smoothness of the traffic flow. A steady 50 MPH traffic flow will emit much less pollution than a flow where the constituent vehicles are regularly accelerating and decelerating.
With a mixture of ANPR Journey time cameras combined with spot speed and vehicle classification smart cameras we can estimate the effects of roadworks, HGVs in the outside lane on dual carriageways and weather conditions on the traffic flow and therefore the likely pollution being caused by whatever is disrupting the smooth flow of traffic.
This allows for better management strategies to be designed, which as well as reducing pollution will save the motorist fuel and therefore cost.
